Nisi Shawl

Nisi Shawl (they/them) is the multiple award-winning author, co-author, editor, and co-editor of over a dozen books of speculative fiction and related nonfiction, including the standard text on diverse representation in literature, Writing the Other: A Practical Approach; the Nebula Award finalist novel Everfair; the first two volumes of the acclaimed New Suns anthology series; and the short story collection Filter House (co-winner of the 2009 Otherwise Award). They’ve spoken at Duke University, Spelman College, Stanford University, Sarah Lawrence College, and many other learning institutions.  Recent titles include a horror-adjacent collection, Our Fruiting Bodies; the Middle Grade historical fantasy novel Speculation; and Kinning, their book-length sequel to Everfair.    “Sun River,” “The Colors of Money,” and “Vulcanization,” short story sequels to Everfair, were published online by Tor.com’s magazine, Reactor.  Shawl lives in Seattle, one block away from a beautiful, dangerous lake full of currents and millionaires.
